I use a lot of "found objects" in my work. Instead of deigning something, then looking for parts, I find my inspiration in the parts themselves. I ask myself first "What the heck could THIS be?" And then come up with something wild by sticking the pieces together...

This is the evolution of the hatch configuration.  It is my belief that even in the future, soldiers will still want to "see" what they are doing.  I find the camera/monitor system on the SAFS to be combat-ineffective.  In my new designs, I have tried to come up with a logical progression for "advances" in pilot needs.  "H1" shows how the camera/periscope has been replaced with an array system (details), and a new targeting system has been added to the front of the chassis.  "H2" shows an armored window cut into the hatch (details).  "H3" shows the window replaced with "tank" periscopes (details).  The targeting site has been scrapped in favor of the new, and now proven targeting system.  "H4" shows the addition of an armored window/canopy, in a new location (details).  The array system has been moved to the center front of the canopy, and the periscope system has been removed.  And "H5" shows the most advanced optics system thus far.  The hatch appears propped open.  This is actually a single, distortion-free window of ballistic glass.  The array system has returned to it's original location.

Some original notes for the H2.

Better notes for the H4, details and scale.  Note the placement of the new array system.  This is a similar electronics package to the one used on the automated units Neuspotter and Oskar.

Three views of the array system and a possible refueling socket.

Better notes for the H5, and the speaker mount that will be used.
