Construction of the arms.
A single arm is not long enough to meet Kow's proportions. Therefore, the shoulder of one arm and the elbow of a second are needed. I chose The Ultimate Soldier (DX) figure for the ball-joints in the shoulder. This will allow me to better secure it to the torso. Since the swivel is in the biceps, this would not be acceptable for the elbow. A G.I.Joe (Classic Collection) figure was chosen for it's elbow pin-joint.
Here you can see the measurements and pin locations. Try it yourself! Pairs of pins (coat hanger wire) were used wherever possible to support the tension of posing the arms.
Range of motion test.
Yellow-grey Milliput kneads into a very sticky yet sculptible material. I used the grey here because it is less expensive. This stuff hardens into rock, holding it's shape and everything in place. It seems to adhere to the Silcast.
Milliput was packed down inside around the pins to reinforce the holes I drilled through.
Above left, are the Technical specifications for the pin locations for anyone who wants to try this
themselves. Milliput is packed inside around the pins to secure them and stabilize the arm pieces.
The left arm in place for fitting.
The fingers were drilled out so they could be posed individually.
The arm socket was reinforced from inside so I could make it deeper.
The arms were secured in place with plastic coated wire.
The wrists are interchangeable. Differently posed hands can be swapped out.
