Disassembling the Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1 - Part 1
Removing the "wood" pieces.
- To remove the fore-grip, undo the single standard-head screw located at the bottom center of the grip. At that point, the grip can be pulled straight off.
- To remove the pistol-grip, undo the single standard-head screw located at the bottom of the grip. It will take a little bit of wiggling to get the grip off, but be careful not to overdo it and damage the motor wires underneath.
- To remove the stock, first remove the rear standard-head screw on the bottom of the stock. The standard-head screw forward of this one should be left in pace for the time being so as not to displace the t-nut that holds it to the bottom of the receiver housing.
Dismantling the receiver housing.
- Place the Thompson top-down on a flat surface. At the rear-bottom of the housing is a small push-button. While depressing this button, slide the trigger-stock assembly straight back. Once you have slid the assembly back far enough to cover the push-button, hold the cocking bolt about half-way bak in it's track. Lift the trigger-stock assembly up slowly, seperating the halves of the housing. You can now slowly release the cocking bolt to avoid letting it slam into place when the trigger-assembly is removed.
- Lay the assembly top-down on a flat surface. At this time, it is safe to go ahead and remove the regular-head screw at the bottom front of the stock. The stock can now be lifted free of the lower receiver housing. Be sure to retrieve the t-nut from the inside of the lower housing.
Removing the rear sight.
- Lay the upper receiver housing top-down on a flat surface. The rear sight is mounted to the upper receiver housing from the inside. To remove it, the stop-plate for the adjustable portion of the sight must first be removed.
- To remove the stop-plate, undo the three miniature phillips-head screws that mount it to the housing. After removing the stop-late, the adjustable portion of the sight can be lifted straight out.
- The four phillips-head screws which hold the rear sight bracket to the upper receiver housing will now be accessible. Lift the housing slightly, and remove them. The sight bracket will drop off of the housing. There will be some oil to clean up where the parts mate.
Removing the barrel.
- First, remove the miniature hex-head setscrew at the top-back of the barrel.
- Lay the upper receiver housing top-down on a flat surface. There are two phillips-head screws that hold the barrel brace to the housing. Remove these, and the barrel can be removed. Slide it off slowly to avoid damaging or unseating the actual brass barrel inside.
