Armor
Everything shown here are actual film-used props from the 1997 film STARSHIP TROOPERS.
The contents of TrooperPX is part of a single private collection. None of these items are for sale.
The armor was made by Prop'er Effects in Culver City, LA, in the fall/winter of 1995-96. They made a total of 650 sets of armor. EST-40 was the main ingredient, giving the armor a foam texture on the inside. Inside was a sheet of fiberglass to help the foam keep it's shape. The outside had a nice rubber skin over the foam. The armor pieces that were in the best condition, were taken aside and modified into "A-grade" armor for principle actors and those close to the camera. The six vent holes on each side of the belly were opened and cleaned, then it was assembled. Some armor was modified to principle's request by attaching a swath of 1/4-inch foam the shoulders of the yoke. This padding made the webbing rivets easier to bear and turned these sets into "Hero-grade" armor. The rest were destined to remain "B-grade" armor.
There were other sets made specifically for the effects crew. These sets needed to packed with squibs and blood packs. Therefore they requested no reinforcing fiberglass sheet be molded in and could easily cut and tear into it. Some of these sets were also used by the stunt people since they were lighter and more flexible. Very few sets of Fleet armor were made. Heck, they flew ships and were not expected to actually "see" the enemy. But they too had their lighter, more flexible effects sets. You may spot them floating about as the ships break up.

Of the 650 sets of armor constructed, two were made in a smaller, "children's" size. (new molds were made...) Another four or five were made for Dina Meyer.

Of the all the sets constructed, only one was truly for a child. The "I'm doing my part" armor set was custom made for the principle child actor of that scene. There is possibly only one of these.
The infamous "Im doing my part" set.
